NOTE: This mod was mostly broken by the 2022-01-20 patch. The patch broke the ability to choose a starting culture with the starting era. We are no longer modding this game, so do not expect an update in the foreseeable future.
This mod allows you to choose the starting era in the game pace settings of Humankind. The game will have the standard number of turns for the game pace you selected (e.g. Normal will be 300 turns). This is a UI-enabled developer feature of the game (thanks developers!).
All players will need to select a culture before beginning the game. AI players will be assigned a culture based on the arbitrary order of cultures for that era, but you can change their culture if you want to.
To select a culture for yourself and AIs click the same button you would to change faction color, icon, banner ornaments, and AI persona.
If you have the Allow Duplicate Cultures Mod installed and enabled, you will be able to select duplicate starting cultures as well, otherwise, choosing a culture that is already assigned to another player will swap your cultures. If you do not select cultures, they will be automatically assigned based on the arbitrary list order.
If you choose the Ancient era through the Industrial era, you will only receive military units at the beginning. You will also have 0 influence. However, you will be able to establish one outpost even though your influence is 0. The eras after that include at least one settler unit.
All techs from previous eras are automatically researched for all players.
City production and cash flow are far less than that of a capitol city settled in the Ancient era. Basically, the city you settle will be similar to a city you settled in the selected era if you were playing a game you began in the Ancient era.
Change Notes:
Version 1.0.0.2 (October 16, 2021):

Version 1.0.0.1 (October 13, 2021):
Fixed a bug that caused the player slot options to not work without also having "Allow Duplicate Cultures" mod installed.
